Tatsunori Hosoi- Contemporary Artist 

Tatsunori Hosoi explores the conditions through which something comes to be perceived as existing through the mediums of video, photography, painting, and installation.

 

His practice is concerned not with the binary oppositions of life and death, body and consciousness, or materiality and immateriality themselves, but with the shifting boundaries between them. Rather than regarding existence as fixed or absolute, he understands it as something whose meaning and presence continually change through human relationships, the passage of time, and the circumstances in which it is encountered.

 

Hosoi's works are developed from tangible subjects and events found in everyday reality—such as the body, architecture, landscapes, everyday objects, machines, and funerary practices. These are not employed as symbols, but as mediators through which he examines what allows us to perceive something as existing.

 

Rather than dramatically transforming his subjects, Hosoi subtly alters the viewer's position, distance, sense of time, or context. Through these quiet shifts, familiar things begin to reveal unfamiliar aspects. His practice continues to observe and question what it is that shapes our understanding of existence.
