A Part of Your Life is a video work developed from an ongoing practice of observing the city during the artist's time living in New York.

Footage originally recorded around 2018 was re-edited and reconstructed in 2022 into a single work. Walking through the city for hours at a time, the artist continuously observed chance encounters between people, the subtle relationships between individuals and the urban environment, and the atmosphere, distance, and flow of time surrounding these moments. Rather than documenting a single event, the work emerged from the accumulated practice of sustained observation itself.

The methodology of observation, which continues to shape Hosoi's current practice, was formed through this ongoing process.

This is not a documentary of the city. Instead, it reconstructs the process through which the artist's own perception and understanding of time gradually transformed by continuously observing the urban environment.

I imagine this realm as a space where the material and the immaterial intersect, and where opposing forces and energies coexist. If there is a realm densely occupied by material existence, might there also be another realm beyond it—a space of complete harmony?

Through a performance in which material and immaterial presences encounter one another, come to understand one another, share the same realm, and repeatedly affirm each other's existence, this work explores the nature of existence itself. Within this process, it suggests that contemporary existence is not fixed, but continuously moves between seemingly opposing states, such as infinity and perfect harmony.
